Conclusion - Essay

To summarise, more companies and governments with online applications are suffering from ransomware attacks, causing enormous damage like the case of Coca-Cola with a bounty claim of 1.65 Bitcoin (about $64,000), and the NHS, which caused massive inconvenience to patients and an estimated loss of £92 million. So, we follow some alternatives to prevent, such as keeping all antivirus, browsers and operating systems up to date, using security measures such as not opening suspicious emails and links, and making backups frequently, preferably in two formats online and offline. Finally, provide security education and awareness training to all employees. References Acronis, 2020.  The NHS cyber attack . [online] Acronis. Main Body - Essay

The first case is about Coca-Cola. According to Bracken (2022), Stormous, a Russian-language ransomware organisation, claims to have stolen 161GB of data from Coca-Cola and is offering to sell the alleged data for 1.65 Bitcoin (about $64,000). The second case is about NHS. On Friday, May 12, 2017, the NHS was forced to a halt for many days related to the WannaCry ransomware. NHS England claimed that at least eighty of the 236 trusts were impacted and 603 primary care and other NHS organisations, including 595 GP practises. The Department, NHS England, and the National Crime Agency claimed that no NHS organisation paid the ransom. The Department, however, does not know how much service interruption costs the NHS, despite estimates reaching £92 million (Acronis, 2020).   According to Kaspersky (2022), everyone should follow these steps to prevent ransomware attacks. Firstly, keep antivirus, browsers, and operating systems up to date. Secondly, never click on hazardous links...

Introduction-Essay

Ransomware attacks consequences and how to prevent them.   A ransomware attack can have devastating consequences. The average cost of recovering from the most recent ransomware attack in 2021 was $1.4 million (Adam, 2022). According to Richardson and North (2017), Joseph L. Popp designed the first ransomware virus in 1989, known as the AIDS Trojan. Popp studied evolutionary biology at Harvard. At the World Health Organization's International Aids Conference, it was delivered on a floppy disc. It used basic symmetric cryptography to encrypt file names, and tools to decrypt them were quickly available. WannaCry Ransomware is the most well-known ransomware after a massive attack on the wide world. It is a kind of malicious software that encrypts data or systems and stops users from accessing them until the victim pays a ransom for a decryption key, which allows them to access the encrypted files or systems (Patil, Mohurle, 2017). Thus, this essay shows two cases of companies...
